ECOLOGY - SUMMARY
The poem of Ecology written by A.K Ramanujan from the third volume of his poems is named 'Second Sight.' And the poem goes like this:
A.K. Ramanujan was a renowned Indian poet, translator, and scholar of Indian literature. He was born in Mysore, India in 1929. He was known for his work on Indian poetry, folklore, and linguistic studies. The poem "ECOLOGY" is from the third volume of his Poems. Ecology is the study of the interactions between organisms and their environment. It examines how living things interact with each other. In this poem, we can see the Writer's concern for his mother's health. In this poem, the writer recollects the memories that he experienced before in his mother's house. This whole poem depicts the bonding between the writer's mother and a Champak tree.
The Writer's mother is uneducated. She loves the champak tree that was planted in the garden of their home. She is emotionally connected with that tree. Those champak trees are the same age as her. It provides a basketful of flowers. But, the problem here is, His mother is suffering from migraine and headaches through the pollens of the Champak tree. The fragrance of the champak tree is making her ill. So, writer A.K Ramanujan decided to cut the tree. But, her mother got angry with him. Because she made a kind of bond and emotional attachment with it. Her emotion was, it is as old as her. The mother says that - the tree was planted by any passing birds dropping. It is an act of nature. So, you should not cut the tree. Even if it is causing me pain, it provides a basketful of flowers to offer the gods. At the same time, Mother started telling the advantages through champak trees.

Mother has treated the suffering as a sacrifice that is stoic because the tree is providing her with all the benefits. finally, the title of the poem "ECOLOGY" is not followed here. Because of the emotions of Mother towards the champak tree. On the other side, the writer is also respecting the emotions of his mother.
