About the Author:
Sarojini Naidu, also known as Sarojini Chattopadhyay, was a freedom fighter, poet, and political leader from India. She was one of the leading figures of the Indian independence movement and was the first woman to become the President of the Indian National Congress. Naidu was also the first woman to become the Governor of an Indian state, serving as the Governor of the United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh) from 1947 to 1949. She is known for her poetry, including her collections "The Golden Threshold," "The Bird of Time," and "The Broken Wing." Naidu is often referred to as the "Nightingale of India" due to her poetry.
IN THE BAZAARS OF HYDERABAD SUMMARY
This poem is a conversational poem between the buyer and sellers. This poem was written during the Swadeshi Movement. In order to boycott British products, as part of proving that they never needed foreign products, Sarojini Nayudu went to the bazaars of Hyderabad and started a conversation with various merchants. This is the conversation of Sarojini Nayudu with 8 Kinds of Sellers. In the bazaars of Hyderabad is a conversational and Questionnaire Poem. The summary goes like this:
1st Stanza:
In the first stanza, we can observe that - She is asking the merchants about the Rich's displayed wares like Turbans, Tunics, Mirrors, and Daggers. She was trying to tell that India is a rich country where we can get all things easier.
